Founded in 2001, ALS Training has gained a reputation as a leading provider of apprenticeship programmes across the digital, financial and professional services sectors.
ALS has gained the experience and credibility to be recognised as an innovative, solutions-led provider identifying funding and delivery solutions for employers across the UK, covering a wide range of apprenticeships across 16 different sectors to UK businesses and their employees. From young people entering the world of work for the first time to senior managers and executives and everything in between, ALS is passionate about improving lives through learning and supporting businesses in completing a training needs analysis to upskill their workforce.
The Cardiff and Vale College Group
ALS was acquired by ACT (part of the Cardiff and Vale College Group of companies) in January 2018. As a subsidiary of ACT, ALS benefits from being part of an organisation that has consecutively been named in the Sunday Times’ Best 100 places to work for since 2012, is Platinum in Investors in People and featured in the National Centre for Diversity’s Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces Index for 2022.

2017
In November, Acorn’s Training Division was awarded Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Accredited Apprenticeship Training Provider status, making us the first provider in Wales to achieve such status and only one of a small number of providers throughout the UK.
2015
In October, a UK first for Acorn's Learning & Development Division, as six of its Principality Building Society Apprentices achieve the Higher Apprenticeship in Banking, Level 4.
2013
In October, Acorn’s Learning & Development Division is presented with the 'Provider Award for Social Responsiveness' at the National Apprenticeship Awards Cymru / Wales.
2012
In January, Acorn’s Learning & Development Division adds Apprenticeship programmes to its commercial training portfolio in England.
2011
In November, Acorn’s Learning & Development Division is designated the 'Apprenticeship Provider of the Year' at the National Apprenticeship Awards Cymru. Acorn’s Learning & Development Division becomes a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail; a network of skills-shops designed to improve productivity for retail businesses and their staff, through training. Acorn Skills Shop forms part of a network of three skills shops in Wales
2009
In January Acorn's Learning and Development Division wins the Newport Construction Initiative's 2008 'Investment in Skills Award'
In June Acorn becomes the first education provider in Wales to be accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). ALS achieves the latest Investors in People (IIP) certification incorporating the entire group - Concept Staffing, Acorn Recruitment and Acorn Learning Solutions.
2008
In January, Acorn signs a ground-breaking recruitment and training agreement with the world-renowned Wales Millennium Centre.
In November, Arriva supported by Acorn's Learning & Development Division wins the 'employer' category at the National Training Awards.
2003
In August, Acorn's training division merges with 'Lexicon', a major UK provider of vocational training. The move enhances Acorn's training portfolio to cover all areas of IT training, vocational learning, and management and leadership development programmes.
